I really want hens.

Let's ignore the fact that I live on a 5th floor flat in London and only have a balcony and two overly fluffy bunnies. If I had all the space in the World (or at the very least a backgarden and a fox proof fence) I'd get chickens.
I am somewhat of a closet chicken expert. It came from reading various books about self-sufficiency last summer and maybe because I have farming in the blood. I also think driving past a chicken farm on my way to my Mum's and seeing a field full of chickens and getting over excited probably hasn't helped this sick, silent love.

Anyway, now it's time for some chicken porn. Provided by photos that people (what ain't me) took.

Orpington Hen 

Friendly & makes eggs all year round.

Plymouth Rock Hen

Pretty feathers, cold hardy and a docile temperament.

Barnevelder Hen

Dark brown eggs, yummy to eat, good for backgardens.

Sussex Hen

Good free range, doting mothers, dual purpose.

Now don't even get me started about my love for Quails... I could go on forever.

It's that time of year...

...When I start buying seeds and saying hello to little tiny seedlings. Although no butternut squash, apple, avocado etc comes into my flat without me having a go at trying to turn it's seed(s) into baby plants.

This year I'm hoping to grow blackberries, lemon cucumbers, all sorts of uncommonly used herbs, and endless amounts of tomatoes and gooseberries all just to name a few... And of course I'm doing all this on a smallish balcony which is sometimes home to my two house rabbits (if the weather is warm enough). I am silly excited for hot days on my balcony sipping tea and grinning like a creep at all my precious little plants.
